The falsifiability challenge
Posted Thu, 12/31/2009 - 13:09
In Episode 37, we posed the following challenge:
Under what conditions could you be convinced that what you believe is false?
We send this challenge to anyone: scientist, theist, conspiracy theorist, homeopath, or anyone else who holds any unproven belief to be true. Note that we're not necessarily asking for realistic conditions. We submit that the easier it is to think of conditions that would falsify a claim, the stronger that claim is. Send us your falsification criteria, and we'll list them here.
| Claim | May be falsified by... | submitted by |
|---|---|---|
| Life evolved over billions of years | Rabbit fossils in the precambrian | J.B.S. Haldane |
| God answers prayers | Failed prayer studies | Harvard & the Templeton Foundation |
| God gives us free will | A "belief in god" gene | Fathima |
